FAQs
I’ve never been to counseling before. What can I expect in the first 15-minute consult?
The 15-minute consultation session looks (and feels) slightly different than a regular session. We’ll spend some time talking about what you want to get out of counseling, how I might help you do that, and our plan moving forward. It’s also a great chance for you to get a feel for me as your counselor to ensure I’m a fit for you.
How long is a typical session?
Unless otherwise specified, sessions are 50 or 80 minutes in length. I also offer 25-minute check in sessions for clients to touch base, decompress or help get perspective or support on an issue.
How often will I have sessions?
This depends on the person. On average, folks find that coming once every two weeks is a nice place to start. But it’s very flexible! As part of our initial consultation and first visit, we’ll discuss a suitable schedule for you.
How much does a session cost, and how can I pay?
Current rates are $130 for a 50-minute session, and $170 for an 80-minute session. You can pay via e-transfer or with all major credit cards through my Jane booking application. If rates are a barrier for you, please reach out - sliding scale rates may be available following initial discussion and consultation.
Can I use insurance?
Yes, I am a registered therapeutic counselor with Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada. Most insurance companies cover my credentials, but I always encourage folks to double-check the fine print of your policy.
I’m not sure if counseling will help with my concern. Will it?
Great question! Chances are, if you have a concern and it’s brought you to this website, you could most likely benefit from counseling. But if you’re not sure, book a free 15-minute consultation. We’ll briefly discuss what’s going on for you and whether this is a fit.
For perinatal counseling sessions, can I bring my baby with me?
Absolutely. If you don’t have childcare or would simply prefer to bring your little one to your session, you certainly can. We can also have virtual sessions if that makes it more accessible for you during this time (nap time!). I’ll do what I can to accommodate your needs.
My question wasn’t covered here
No problem! Email me via the contact link with any other questions or concerns. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
