What are you looking for in a therapist?

You’ve taken the first step to seek a little help, but the options out there can be overwhelming. Ensuring your counselor or psychologist is a good fit for you isn’t only about the approach or method they use; it’s also about their values and the principles that guide your work together. These are the primary values that guide my practice:

Are you seeking to provoke your curiosity, understand your limiting beliefs, and open up possibilities for seeing things differently?

Curiosity

Do you feel compassion is essential — with yourself and others — especially for personal or spiritual growth and healing?

Compassion

Are you searching for deeper, more meaningful connections with your family, friends, community and perhaps most of all yourself?

Connection

If these values are important to you, we'll be a great fit.

My Approach

You’re here to get a little help, but we’re in this together.

As a client-led, experiential counsellor, specializing in Internal Family Systems, I offer a supportive, holistic and gentle approach to trauma, stress, anxiety, parenting struggles and postpartum depression that takes into consideration your unique story, experiences and what brought you here.

What is client-led?

Great question. Client-led doesn’t mean you're expected to be in the driver’s seat. Simply put, you’re not a box, so let’s not put you inside one.

I’m interested in understanding more about you — your family, your birth story and your motherhood journey. Drawing on many perspectives and modalities, we'll uncover new insights, fresh perspectives, and tools to reconnect with your inner wisdom.

What does a typical session look like?

Feelings can be hard to feel. But many times, we need to address more than our thoughts to get to the root of an issue.

In a typical session, we'll do some talking and contextualizing and, depending on the issue or circumstance, we'll likely engage in some experientially-based practices that ask us to feel and pay attention to what’s happening in the body at the somatic (sensory) level.

Many of these exercises form the basis of helpful tools and techniques you can use outside of our sessions. This work is always done in a safe space and to your comfort level.

About Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a unique approach to healing that focuses on restoring trust in our highest self to foster more energy and confidence, feel more grounded throughout life's inevitable ups and downs, and lead lives that are more harmonious and fulfilling.

The three core elements of IFS are:

Multiplicity

Our personalities are made of parts

We're not just "one" personality, rather a whole bunch of different personas that have developed for important reasons such as protecting us.

Systems theory

PARTS MAKE UP THE WHOLE

We all experience different internal voices and thought patterns, called systems, that are similar to external relationships we have with other people.

Spirituality

THERE'S A HIGHER SELF THAT KNOWS

IFS recognizes a core essence or 'higher self' inside of everyone that is capable of leading and guiding these various 'parts' towards more fulfilling lives.
